Term 3 - Scratch Project (1st Story Board)

The Second Story (The One I didn't choose as my final one)

This is the Story Board I had decided not to do

Reflection
This project is about two people bonding over a kind gesture and perhaps starting a friendship on the project. I will be using Scratch to make this project into a reality. I was thinking of a way two people could bond between something as simple as a kind gesture or a polite word. In this case the girl sitting on the bench said 'bless you' to the boy that sneezed whilst he was walking, which caused the boy to start up a conversation between them by asking the girl what her name was. I came up with the project because I was thinking of a way to spread a positive message through my work whilst still making it interesting and relatable. This story is relatable as this is something that actually could happen to anyone, rather than it being something that only happens in fairy tales. It is interesting as it is enjoyable to watch how two strangers can become friends in a few sentences. I believe that the challenging part is making them speak one after the other, whilst not allowing one person to overlap the other person whilst they are talking or for there to be an extremely long pause between a question and an answer. I highly enjoyed the making of this project and whilst it was quite simple it still spread a positive message towards anyone who watches it. It was hard but the fact that we made an "About Me" project before means that it was slightly easier to make than it would have been if we did not have any practice. So, in conclusion, I believe that I did very well on this project and that I will end up being very proud of my work and this will hopefully get me a good mark.

Term 3 - Scratch Project (2nd Story Board) Final One

The Story

Reflection
This project is about two people who do not know one another, becoming best friends despite the fact that when they first met each other, they judged one another negatively without knowing anything about them. The message of this story is to never judge a person without knowing anything about them. The reason as to why I decided to do this is because, not only is it a good Scratch program assessment, but it also spreads a positive message to anyone who sees it. I wanted to make my Scratch about something that I am passionate about and I am very passionate about people not judging and criticizing one another without, hardly, any proof that the other person is whatever label they decided that the person is. I also believe that I did well on this project and I hope that I included a lot of the things that will help me get a high grade on this project and that keeps and lets the story be interesting and simple as to not confuse people whilst they are watching my Scratch story.  This project is very simple yet still quite complicated. I honestly think that the hardest part of this assessment is making the two people talk one after the other and wait for the other person to finish talking before they start talking. In this assessment I made the project slightly different then how I planned to make it but I still made sure to keep the beginning part the same as I made it in my plan. So, in conclusion, I believe that whilst I made slight changes, the overall message of the story is the same and it will hopefully allow me to get a good or, at least, average mark.

After I had uploaded this post, I had received feed back from the teacher telling me to add my own voice into the scratch project. So I have re-uploaded the scratch project and added my voice at the end.

Term 3 - Developing Ideas Criterion B

Reflection
This project is two strangers that are bonding between something as simple as politeness. I came up with the project because I was thinking of a way to spread a positive message through my work whilst still making it interesting, realistic, immersing and relatable. So, in conclusion, whilst this is a good idea, I am not one hundred percent sure if this will be the final one as it might not be adequate enough to allow me to have a high or, at the very least, an average mark.

Reflection
This project is about how two strangers can bond over something as basic as an apology for rudeness.  For this project I will be using the program Scratch to turn this idea/project into a reality. I was thinking of a way to make these two strangers become friend by something unexpected or so simple that nobody could possibly believe it. In this case there is a girl sitting on the stairs and she hears two cats making an extremely loud noise that it catches her attention. But the cats have an owner. When the owner sees the ruckus and disturbance that her cats caused she apologizes almost immediately which starts a conversation between the two girls. I came up with this project the same way that I came up with the first one. I wanted to spread a positive message whilst still being subtle and interesting. The interesting part of this project is that the two girls bonded over one plain and basic, sorry. The challenging part would be, as I stated in the last reflection, to make them speak, one after the other, as well as making the girl with the cats change her demeanor from scary owner of cats to friendly person.

Final Reflection
I have chosen the second one as I believe it is more adequate. It has more conversation and I am thinking of adding more to the project itself during the making of the Scratch project. The project is supposed to showcase a story between two people. I have decided to make a story that spreads a positive message and the second one spreads a more positive messages than the first one. I am planning on making the project change background four times and to have two people have a decent conversation. In this project the messages is to not judge people without knowing anything about them personally. I believe that I will be able to show this in the project itself. I believe that the project will work as expected and that I will be extremely proud by the end of it.I believe that this project is very interesting and everyone will be able to engage and relate to it as it is something that can happen to everyone. It is interactive as it includes two people engaging in a conversation. It is not that original but I came up with everything by myself. It is sophisticated as the people engaging in the conversation are polite, at first, and behave in a formal manner. It is pretty as the effects are believable. It is slightly funny although there is not much humor as it is meant to have a serious impact on people. I felt happy and proud that I will not only be making a interesting project for school, but I will be sending a great and content message to the world, or anyone that watches it.

Term 3 - Scratch Programming Projects

Statement of Inquiry
Computational Creation enables me to be creative.

Introduction
In Term 3 we will be working on Scratch programming. This is creative computing and enables us to explore various sprites and commands in Scratch.

Reflection

What was my inspiration?

I was hoping to be able to tell people the basics about me and what I like as well as what I don't like whilst keeping it entertaining. I also wanted to give anyone who saw or will see this enough time to read the questions.

How did I do that?

I believe that I kept it entertaining by always changing the costume as well as the background after every question. I also did give that enough time to read the facts as I made sure that every fact stayed on for three seconds.

What did I get stuck on? How did I get Unstuck?

I got slightly stuck on how to make the sprite and the background change at a similar time, but I figured that if I went on control and took the "wait for _ seconds" I could time the entire project to take as long or as short as I want. I had chosen for every change to wait 3 seconds as it is a fact that humans like it when things come in threes.

What am I most proud of?

I am very proud that I was able to draw myself, at least good enough to look like a human being, as it is incredibly hard to draw on a computer and I didn't want to take a picture of myself and import it to the presentation. I am also proud that I was able to use this tool efficiently, at least for a beginner.

What might I do next?

I want to learn how to make two sprite or costumes to show at the same time and make them have a conversation as I believe that would be an interesting thing to do and I would be able to understand how this tool works and expand my reach of usable resources in case we have an assessment on programming in the future when we are older. So it would be something beneficial to not just me, but my peers as well.

Global Context
1) ATL Skills
Information Literacy
Creative Thinking

Introduction
In Term 3 we will be making Scratch programs that will require the two ATL skills listed above, Information Literacy and Creative Thinking. Here I will be explaining how I will be using them. I will use my two ATLs, in this reflection I will be explaining how. For the ATL of Information Literacy I will be researching and gaining information on how to use scratch and one what I am supposed to do as it is a difficult program and I am not the most skilled at it. I will be using Creative Thinking by making my own personalized idea. I will be coming up with my idea by using something that I feel strongly about. So far I have come up with the idea of making my project either about not judging one another as I think that this is a very important topic that needs to cease of happening in the world or to make one about how a polite word a gesture may make a very big difference in this world. So, in conclusion, I will be using both of my ATLs Skills in the process of the future project.

2) What suits my Project?
Identities and Relationships
Personal and Cultural Expression
Fairness and Development

Justification
The reason why I have chosen these three things I because I have decided, as I stated above, to make it about either, not to judge people or about how a polite gesture could make the difference between a friend and an enemy. Now I will explain about how each of these three things is related to my future Scratch project. The first Global Context is Identities and Relationships; this relates to my future Scratch Project as it will be about judging peoples identities and possible future relationship. The second Global Context is Personal and Cultural Expression, this is related to my future Scratch Project as it is about Personal Expression and the reason the other person is judging the second one might be because of Cultural Expression. The last and final Global Context is Fairness and Development. This also relates to my idea as it will be about not showing fairness and how important it actually is. It can also be taken in a way that it is about development of manners and the way people think, or even, the way they see things in this world.

Evaluation - Criterion D

Final Reflection
In our project, we had shared our work equally throughout the three of us; My part of the project was the Pros and Cons of the Sawed off USB cable power point, filming the video for the Sawed off USB cable, the making of the Dance Playlist, the description of the Dance Playlist and the filming of the Dance Playlist video.  We had divided our work so everyone was working on the things they excel in. We had few problems finding a proper idea for the Tech Fair project but we, obviously, surpassed that problem with few difficulties. A second problem we had was making the Sawed off USB cable, but we fixed it by working together and helping each other by using each other’s strengths and contributing to the project. The people in my group were Monica, Kiyara and I. In my group we did not have a leader, everyone had their own part of the project to work on and we did well without needing a leader. Monica and Kiyara also had an equal amount of work that they contributed to the making of our easy D.I.Y Sawed off USB cable and our Dance Playlist. My group and I had put a lot of effort in our work and I think it shows in our work and how it resulted in the end of the day. We had followed each criterion that was given to us. We had done the things stated in the criteria and obeyed them to a certain extent. We had first made only a Sawed off USB cable at first but then we were given feedback by our teacher to make it better by adding another project and find a way to mash those two projects together. We had worked well with the information the criteria gave us in our project as well as the feedback that was given to us by our peers and our teacher. If we were given a second chance to do the Tech Fair again, I would probably not make the Dance Playlist but instead make a Game Software, or something related to that, as it would be slightly more Technology related than the Dance Playlist, but I would keep the Sawed off USB cable. We had acceptable time management skills as we had given everything in on the time that was stated in the criterion. I believe that whilst we have done well in our Tech Fair Project but at the same time we could have done a lot better as, even if our project was related to Technology and it was decent enough, I believe that we should always challenge ourselves to do something better as we are bright students that could have given slightly more effort in our Tech Fair even if we tried our best.  So in conclusion, I believe that although we deserve to be given a high mark we should not be in the Tech Fair as there are people in our class who deserve it more.

Flyer for RAM

REFLECTION
This is Ward, Arthur and I's flyer on the device of a computer we were given, which is the RAM. I believe that in the short amount of time we were given to finish this assignment, my group and I did well. This was a very educational exercise, as not only did it help our research skills, which is one of our ATLs, but also our collaboration and social skills, which are two of our ATLs. We had improved our research skills greatly as we had to find out what this device was and what is was used for, as prior to this assignment, I had no idea what a RAM was or what it was used for or even that it was a part of the computer. Another reason why we improved our research skills is because we had to research quickly as we were given a short time limit. This can be very helpful to us in the future as learning to res arch quickly is a very valuable skill. We also improved our social and collaboration skills as our teacher put us into groups and I have only worked with Arthur once for the Peer Evaluations in Term 1. I have never worked with Ward before so it was a pleasant experience to work with new people, although it might be out of our comfort zone. In the end, I believe I have benefited a lot from this assignment and have improved my knowledge and understanding of IT, as well as improving my own social skills, which will be very important in the future. I also believe that we have done extremely well on this project and collaborated perfectly.

Technology and the U.A.E National Agenda ( Sustainable and Infrastructure )

The National Agenda
His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and the Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai make the National Agenda. The National Agenda is a sort of goal for the U.A.E to make U.A.E better by the year 2021. There are 6 pillars to the National Agenda. These pillars are; Cohesive Society and Preserved Identity, Safe Public and Fair Judiciary, Competitive Knowledge Economy, First-Rate Education System, World-Class Healthcare and Sustainable Environment and Infrastructure.

The National Agenda has targets that they would like to accomplish before 2021 or during 2021. These targets are; to set the standards for other governments and to be first worldwide in smart services, to transform all schools and curricula to smart learning and increase investment in pre-school education, to make U.A.E the safest place on earth and reduce the response time of emergency calls to a record time of four minutes, to increase the per capita gross income by 65% over the next seven years, to become the first globally in land, sea and air infrastructure and the world's first in ease of doing business, to decrease the waiting period of eligibility for housing to two years from the date of application and to increase Emiratisation in the private sector 10 times. If motivation is not enough, the government will enforce new measures to increase Emiratisation.

The pillar that we will be focusing on is Sustainable Environment and Infrastructure. A general description of this pillar is that the UAE Government wants to ensure sustainable development while preserving the environment, and to achieve a perfect balance between
economic and social development.

We shall be finding ways to connect this pillar to Technology and see how we may help achieve this pillars goal. We use Technology as means of socializing, so now we need to find a way to help the environment through socializing.  Perhaps we could make website as to spread awareness and alert people that we must help save the everlasting environment from extinction. Another way we could help is by this hour called Earth our where we must turn of all lights and not use any devices for an hour, from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. There are many ways to help the U.A.E accomplish this pillar that may be done by any ages, as most people, even children, have phone or laptops or Ipads.  This could help all of use even those who don’t live in the U.A.E as the environment affects us all.  I believe that this Agenda is a wonderful idea and hopefully this agenda will be a reality by the year 2021.

Self Reflection

Self Reflection

In our presentation, my group and I presented our Tech Fair projects. My group consists of Monica, Kiyara and I. We had made two Tech Fair projects as there were three of us and making only one Tech Fair project would be too easy. We had made a Sawed off USB cable and a Dance playlist on the IOS software GarageBand. We had first presented the Sawed off USB cable and showed our PowerPoint that explained the Pros and Cons, a description of the project and the materials need to make the project. We also showed our promotional video, which we found quite cringe-worthy. We explained how we made it and how it made be used. We also said that it may cause no harm and no-one may be electrocuted as it only looks like a Sawed off Cable. Then we presented our second project, the Dance Playlist. We explained how we had no clue as to how we were supposed to use GarageBand. So we spent hours just trying to figure out how to use it without researching. Finally we showed people the PowerPoint we made for this Tech Fair which included; a description of the project, Pros and Cons as well as materials. Then we showed the second promotional video we made for the Dance playlist, which explains why people should use it. Afterwards we said how and why we should be allowed in the Tech Fair. Personally, although we did try extremely hard, the Dance Playlist should not be in the Tech Fair but possibly the USB cable as, Arthur, a colleague and classmate stated that "The music was bad, but the USB cable was pretty cool." So in conclusion, I believe that our USB cable was good but other people have done slightly better than us in their project so they deserve to be in the Tech Fair more than my group and I do.

Peer Reflections

Peer Reflections

Akshansh and Nicolai and Ahmed presented their project first, they had presented a project that is a robot named Storm KI3N, which stands for Akshansh's last name, Ahmed's last name, the fact that there is 3 of them. Nicolai's first name as if they put the last name, It would have not sounded as nice. Their project was very interesting and visually appealing. I liked how they explained everything on their project and how they made it. The feedback I want to give them is that I loved their project it was very entertaining and i hope they keep up with the amazing work. I believe that since only 4 of us can be in the Tech Fair, I know that they have to be one of those four as their project was extremely entertaining and is the best project of all.

Karim. R was the second presentation. He presented a game that he made on software. His project was fun and entertaining. I liked how he had some of us come and play the game; he even had Arthur (a boy in the class) make a game himself. The feedback I want to give him is that his presentation was spectacular and his project was lovely but, during the presentation he should have faced the audience more and maybe explain the project a little bit clearer, other than that it was a fascinating presentation.  I think that Karim should be allowed into the Tech Fair, as it is obvious that he worked very hard on his project and is passionate about it.

The third group to present their project was Ashkan and Arthur they made a pinball machine, they have used complicated technology and Lego to make this pinball machine. During their presentation they chose one person to play the pinball machine. Mindstorm is the program they used to give the machine ‘’brain sensors’’.  The only feedback I would like to give them is that they should explain the project in a simpler manner as to allow younger and possibly older students to understand.  I believe that they can make the project but that is only if I see the other project and theirs surpass all of the ones I see later as I have not seen all of the projects yet.

The next group, after my group and I, was Ananya and Riya. They have made a Lego Robot called BBH, it is a kit and in it there are mechanical parts and the programming software to control the robot. For the Robot they bought the parts and assembled it, than they downloaded software that allows them to control the robot. You can ask the robot a yes or no question and it will answer using the app. I believe that the project is visually appealing but I do not think they should be in the Tech Fair as they just bought the parts and put it together and they just downloaded the app. There was no actual programming involved on their part.

The fifth person was Anishka, her project was The Handy Electronic Mop. It is used to clean everything you can’t reach; you can also use it to find things you lost. As it can search under your bed, if you need to find something you’ve lost. You will need to charge it according to the amount of time you shall use it afterwards, like if you want to use it for a long time you will need to charge it for around 7-8 hours. The feedback I would like to give her is that her presentation skills were not the best. She was too quiet and she didn't face the audience. Also, she did not work hard on her project, though it is good for a first time. I do not believe it is that Technical and she could have done a lot better. I do not think she should be in the Tech Fair as her project is not very interesting and it wouldn't impress younger children and males, though perhaps it would impress females. The Tech Fair has a wide range of audiences of all shapes and sizes. In conclusion, she worked hard on her project and deserves a high mark, but I, personally, do not vote for her to go to the Tech Fair.

The sixth group was Mohammed Khaled and Khaled. There was also supposed to be Mati, but he was absent. Their game was called Big Ship Defender. The program they used to make the game was Game Salad. Kids are allowed to play this game as it is non-violent. They had chosen two players, Monica and Karim, to play the game and see if its fun. The feedback I have for them is that although their presentation skills were good. They had no Pros and Cons, which was required in the criterion that was given to all students. Though they had made a good game, Kairm (The second person to present) had also made a game. I do not believe that two people that made the same thing and are in the same class should be allowed in the Tech Fair. In my opinion Karim’s game was more fun and better and he was more passionate about his game. In conclusion, I do not believe they should be in the Tech Fair.

The seventh person to present was Adam O'Neil. He made a website called Save a Panda by Adam O'Neil. His URL was adamthedragon21.wix.com/save a panda. He used wix.com to make the website. The reason he chose to do this project is because he loves Panda's ad Bears in general. He searched things to do with Panda's like what their diet was. Their average size and the habitat's they live in. The feedback I have for him is that, at the beginning of the presentation he was slightly quiet and seemed shy. He should be more confident of his project and himself. Also I feel like his project didn't require much building or work on his part. He should have chosen something that people can touch and hold in their hands or something they can listen to or play with, when their bored. So, although his project does count as technical, I don't think its Technical enough. Also he didn't put a reference page, which is plagiarism. There is not enough information to count it as a professional website. I do not believe that Adam should be in the Tech Fair as, if we are only allowed four people by each class, there are other students in this class that have done a slightly better job. But at least he tried to do a project even after he failed the first one. So in conclusion, although he tried hard, he should not be in the Tech Fair.

The eighth group to present was Jana and Christa. Their project was a Robotics Car. The engine is connected to a remote control which allows it to move forwards, backwards, left and right. The robotics car has a slight amount of technology involved. The feedback I would like to give them is that they were promoting their project to be a lot better than it actually is. They did not work hard on their project and we do not even know if they did it as they did not bring it. So there is no proof that they actually did it. I think that they should not be allowed into the Tech Fair as they did not work that hard, their project is easy, their project already exist and can be bought at the mall. Their blogs were not complete and their power point contained information that can be thought of by anyone and nothing makes their project special. So in conclusion, they should not be allowed into the Tech Fair.

The next group to present was Imaan and Harang. Their project was Stop Motion Animation. Stop Motion Animation is animation that it when, let’s say, you take a picture and there are things that are not moving, you may make them move. To make a stop motion animation you must have clay or a drawing. There are two software’s you can use,’ Stop Motion Animator’ or ‘Monkey Jam’. They used Stop Motion Animation. They had done ‘Stop Motion Animator’ as ‘Monkey Jam’ is a little more complicated. It takes a long process to edit the picture and might not go out as planned. The feedback I would like to give them is that the project itself is acceptable, though they were slightly quite when presenting their project so they could improve their presentational skills. Their project was complicated in a sense and very unique, but not as great as others in the class. In conclusion, I believe that although they did an acceptable project they should not be allowed into the Tech Fair.

The tenth group to present was Davide and Satchit.  Their project was Firefly Night Lights. These are lights that are shaped like fireflies using LED lights.  The can be used for reading a book in the dark. They are very easy to make as they do not involve pen. You will need eight materials to make this project. The only Con is that the project is not a strong light.  The feedback I would like to give them is that their presentational skills were substantial, but the project itself is not the most adequate. I believe that they could have worked a lot harder as they are smart students, and perhaps could have been a little more creative. In conclusion, I do not believe Satchit and Davide should be allowed into the Tech Fair.
